Undated but British Library lists date as 1937 and the numbers 12. 37 have been printed on on the rear flyleaf at the bottom corner. An illustrated children's tale with pages printed on one side of the leaf only. Unpaginated. Paper covered boards. Rear board (grey in colour) is soiled. Edges and extremities rubbed with tears to paper along spine strip and corners. Front hinge is starting to bottom 2" otherwise intact. Binding square and tight. Text block and illustrations clean and bright. Previous owner's details on front pastedown. A most attractive copy of this now extremely hard-to-find children's book which sparked much controversy when it was first published - the essence of the story being a little girl's friendship with a stranger and this led to it being out-of-print for the next 34 years.
